Peruvian Female Industrialists and the Globalization Project

The main aim of the paper is to explore the female industrialists struggle for personal independence and entrepreneurial success in the aftermath of Peru’s adoption of Neo-liberal policies. The author emphasises the importance of studying the effects of globalisation and Neo-liberal policies on women, as increased trade lead to a closure of many small-scale industries affecting women industrialists more then their male counterparts, due to the patriarchal social structure. As a result, women lost their economic independence as well as their household bargaining power. The author also emphasises the importance of future studies on middle-class industrialist women rather then sole concentration on poverty-ridden female artisans in order to capture the true effects of neo-liberal policies on gender effects in different classes.
