Enhancing Women’s Access to Markets: an Overview of Donor Programs and Best Practice

This paper is divided into two distinct sections. Section one is an explanation of the gender-specific constraints that impede women from accessing markets and section two is an overview of the projects and programs implemented up to now to remove or reduce such impediments.

The study views women as both producers in the market and potential entrants to the market and therefore explores the constraints that hinder both women’s access to and outcomes in the diverse markets. The paper investigates 5 key gender-specific constraints; gender division of labour, care economy, gendered social norms, consumption patterns and time poverty
